Royal Oak

Welcome to the city of Royal Oak

The City of Royal Oak requires no introduction to the Detroit metropolitan area. Conveniently located near several major thoroughfares, Royal Oak's location is a perfect place to put down roots. I-75, 696, and Woodward Avenue will get you any place you need to be in the area within minutes. This is evident in the steady property values throughout the city, even in this difficult economic time. Royal Oak has maintained the appeal of a small town, while affording many of the amenities of a large metropolis.

Royal Oak has a great respect for diversity, so the city's composition is truly eclectic. The population represents a diverse mix of individuals, age groups, incomes, and myriad of residential home styles. Combined efforts of a proactive city government, an engaged Downtown Development Authority, and a Chamber of Commerce that continues to grow over the past several years have brought about a metamorphosis of the city's central business district, business districts to the North and South of downtown and along the Woodward corridor.

Downtown businesses have created a diverse, one-stop commercial district where customers find quality and personal service. Retail shops offer specialty items and many restaurants feature outdoor patios that connect visitors to the heart of Royal Oak.

Visitors to Main, Washington and other downtown streets experience the city's unique sense of place and identity, unlike cities without downtown districts. It can be felt among patrons of the theaters, upscale restaurants, coffeehouses, distinctive shops and award-winning salons.

The Barbara A. Hallman Memorial Plaza located near the library features "The Star Dream", a contemporary sculpture crafted by the late Marshall Fredericks, the famous Royal Oak sculptor. The nearby War Memorial commemorates Canadian and U.S. Forces, and Royal Oak military service personnel who died in World Wars I and II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Royal Oak is also home to the World Headquarters of SAAB North America and several up and coming future Fortune 500 companies. Woven into the mix of high tech and high stakes business are several pockets of galleries, artisans, and unique start-ups that are sure to spark your interest.

There are many community events throughout the the year that promise to delight residents and guests of all ages. For the most part, there’s never a dull moment in this great town to live in, work in and play in.

Royal Oak is the place to come to, not pass through.
